Pat Miles Visits Concept Industries to Talk About Job Creation

August 25, 2010

Congressional candidate Pat Miles visited Concept Industries, a Cascade, Michigan manufacturer, yesterday to meet with small business leaders and to talk about the issues facing small businesses.

Small business leaders discussed some of the difficulties involved in accessing sources of capital to help their businesses expand, as well as researching new manufacturing techniques and products.

Miles said, “We need to make sure small businesses have the help they need to keep and create new jobs. From my 19 years of experience working as a business attorney, I recognize that access to capital is one of the biggest issues facing small businesses. We need to raise federal Small Business Administration loan limits to encourage job stability and growth, and to reduce the burdensome paperwork and fees associated with the application process for these kinds of loans.”

Miles continued, “In Congress, I will work to lower taxes on small businesses, including instituting a temporary payroll tax holiday, accelerating depreciation for purchases of American equipment to help business get a better return on their investments, and supporting research tax credits to encourage innovation.

Since 1984, Concept Industries has been making green products for the automotive and office furniture industries, including returnable packaging and non-woven fiber products. Their automotive products, which use 50% natural fibers, are lighter than petroleum-based products traditionally used by car companies, and better for the environment.

“It is encouraging to see products that are not only useful and marketable in industries that have been hit hard by the recession, but are also good for the environment,” said Miles. “In Congress, I will support tax credits to encourage this kind of research and development. That will be one of the keys to revitalizing Michigan’s economy.”
